A100 Jaunty's refit PDF Print E-mail

Refitting Refitting Galley Galley "Jaunty" has been refitted to the highest standard for bareboat or skippered charter from Chichester Harbour from summer 2009 onwards (see our Web links - ed.).

Some idea of the quality of work can be gained from this photo of the galley area.

She has a steel rudder, lifted by means of a double purchase wire strop routed around the aft cabin under deck by means of a set of spare Atalanta steering pulleys. She is on a drying mooring in Chichester and there is no problem with this arrangement and the rudder is held clear as it was designed to be. Under power and sail (with or without auto pilot) the rudder works efficiently. As a first time user of the whipstaff arrangement I have found no difficulty in maneuvering.

Prop (before fitting grounding strip) Prop (before fitting grounding strip) The folding prop installation, but before the new grounding strip had been made up. The original (between the P bracket and skeg) did not allow sufficient clearance for the new prop, so a slightly bow shaped one was made up in welded 2mm laminated stainless steel (approximately 25mm wide). - I finally opted for the Radiche 2 bladed 12in as the Gori only went up to 11.5in and Sillette - the supplier - checked the performance against Jaunty's engine Mitsubishi Vetus 1200 and recommended the Radiche 12in. The installation has had a good workout, both in close maneuvering and open water. The performance is as I would expect from a fixed installation. The boat reaches hull speed with about three quarters throttle in moderate seas and astern provides adequate thrust either to stop the vessel or facilitate close quarters turning. So all in all very pleased. Of course the main benefit is no drag under sail!

Aft loo Aft loo Aft loo - is a combined Jabsco toilet and holding tank located inside the aft cabin bulkhead to starboard. The deck pump out is located in the cockpit and sea discharge is facilitated by a 12v macerator pump, which is also linked through a diverter as a main bilge pump. A secondary bulkhead (currently work in progress) will divide the loo from the dedicated athwart aft cabin berth. 3 sea berths in main cabin - including Nav area quarter berth is adequate for passage making. Waterproof canvas is being used to provide screen divides and an aft cabin screen off for the rudder opening. The idea is to put sorage pockets in these. I can confirm that the aft loo arrangement works very well as an alternative to the Houdini-esque Atalanta focsail alternative

An Eberspacher heater has been installed with outlets in the saloon and aft cabin, and a non pressurized hot water system from a small Eberspacher calorifier (filled independently) will provide hot water from a folding basin in the area opposite the loo (work in progress). Also fitted New cockpit floor, added extra cockpit drains, slide out nav table, pedestal dining table, fitted stanchions and lifelines, stainless steel chain locker, Taylors paraffin cooker.

I can provide further details to members on the fit out and modifications via PM to CHRIS GREEN.
