I thought I may liven up the workshop pages by sharing some of the Antipodean winter fun I am having.....
With the forward bulkhead replaced, the new floors in, and the bunks replaced, I decided to have a change from woodwork and try to diss-assemble a spare whipstaff steering gear ( I had already resorted to cutting off the original gear which was rusted solid, rather than rip the aft bulkhead out to remove it!) but to no avail, so I cut the shaft........
...yes this was a waste of time, I tried heating it and bashing it and eventually managed to press the shaft out on a hydraulic press....
I have recycled the bronze bush that goes through the bulkhead and had a new shaft and trunion block and bracket for the whipstaff made in stainless....
....so I will not have to worry about it seizing up again!
