Are the air vents on either side of the companionway, that duct air into the engine compartment, an after thought?. I have seen them on some Atalanta's but not others?
What they seem best at is funneling water below to rot the bulkhead. Obviously water has entered A87's and collected at the bottom, over the years, and the ply in the area has gone a bit soft..So the Ducts are off, they are a feature though, I may replace them but as non ducting ducts!, they are a useful place to mount instruments..running the wiring inside.
Now having removed the Ducts.....
I am replacing a section across the companionway bulkhead, where the ducts went through from the cockpit, inboard. I have taken the opportunity to increase the height of the companionway a few inches...Next I will sand the whole face of the Bulkhead down and laminate a layer of Biax cloth over it, which will stiffen it up and keep the water out..
