The Atalanta East Coast Race is taking place this year on Saturday 14th August 2010, which as usual is the last day of the West Mersea Town Regatta. The race starts around 9pm and follows a course around markers in the Blackwater Estuary, "Race" is perhaps an overstatement, although once it starts a certain rivalry does seem to develop. It's essential to have a copy of the Regatta booklet with you, which sets out the course which is chosen on the day, depending on the wind.

Following the race, various events take place around the West Mersea waterfront, and towards evening the Atalanta crews assemble for a fish and chip supper where trophies are presented. We usually get back to the boats in time for the final Regatta Firework Display.

The Regatta is a very pleasant occasion, and we hope to have a number of boats taking part this year, including at least two that have recently been restored.
